  Rebecca Madsen and Tara DeGuelle of Brice Mortgage in Sturgeon Bay work for YOU when obtaining financing for a new home. My husband and I were looking for financing to purchase a unique home in Sturgeon Bay. We tried financing with Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Quicken Loans and others. We learned that none of the big banks would finance a unique home because of a lack of comparable properties. After exhausting our list of bigger banks, we tried local banks. Twice we were led to believe that the banks would work with us, but we would have to get an adjustable rate mortgage with a less-than-desirable interest rate. Both times we wasted two weeks in waiting for the underwriters to make a decision. Both times we were refused. We were frustrated not only because of the wasted time, but the feeling that we had no control of the situation. It seemed ridiculous that we could not buy a property because the banks could not prove it was worth anything. At our wits’ end, our Realtor suggested a new company in Sturgeon Bay— Brice Mortgage. Things moved very quickly with Rebecca and Tara. The same day our Realtor stopped in to talk to Rebecca about our situation, we were in contact with her and completing the preliminary loan application. She refused to believe we could not buy our unique home— it would just take some work to make it happen. Rebecca was very hands on, contacting us immediately when we needed to supply documents. We were invited to reach out to her whenever we had questions or concerns. Rebecca regularly assured us that every loan she pursues closes. Her confidence in our ability to get a loan was infectious, but we were hesitant to get too excited because we had been rejected so many times. Twenty days after initiating the loan process with Rebecca, we had an initial loan approval. We were surprised and grateful to know that, despite buying a unique home, we qualified for a 30-year fixed mortgage at a very good interest rate! It looked as if our dream of living in Door County would really come true! We closed on our unique home about a month later. During the entire process, Rebecca and Tara worked together to make sure all of the loan requirements were met. With our permission, they regularly communicated with our Realtor as well. We wasted a lot of time with conventional banks that were more worried about their bottom line.
